“And the Angels Sing” is a cornerstone of the swing era, most famous for its 1939 recording by the Benny Goodman Orchestra, where Harry James was a featured trumpeter.

Klezmer Roots: The song originated as an instrumental klezmer-style tune called “Frailach in Swing,” written by trumpeter Ziggy Elman. It features a distinct Jewish wedding dance influence, known as a “bulgar.”
Melodic Structure: It transitions from a lush, sentimental ballad in the first half to a high-energy, uptempo swing number in the second.
