“You Never Can Tell” (also known as “C’est La Vie” or “Teenage Wedding”) is an iconic, upbeat rock and roll song written and recorded by Chuck Berry. Released in August 1964 on his album St. Louis to Liverpool, the track reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains celebrated as one of the finest examples of Berry’s sharp-eyed, literary songwriting.
While always a recognized classic, the song achieved massive, permanent legendary status in 1994 when director Quentin Tarantino selected it for the movie Pulp Fiction. It soundtracks the iconic, deadpan twist contest dance scene at Jack Rabbit Slim’s restaurant featuring John Travolta and Uma Thurman.
