Frank Sinatra’s iconic 1969 version is known for its steady, worldly confidence, Tom Jones infuses the song with his signature Welsh powerhouse soul and theatrical intensity.
The “Almost” Original: Songwriter Paul Anka originally had Tom Jones in mind to record the track first. However, Anka’s music publisher overruled the decision, passing the song to Frank Sinatra instead.
1971 Release: Tom Jones eventually recorded and released his studio version as the B-side to his massive 1971 hit single, “She’s A Lady”. It was later featured on his album Tom Jones Sings She’s A Lady.
